History of Israel's Governance

The leadership of Israel was recieved and transmitted as follows:

Avraham/Abraham recieved the blessing from Ha-Shem/G-od;

Yits'haq/Isaac recieved the blessing from his father;

Ya'aqov/Jacob recieved the blessing from his father (Ya'aqov/Jacob became Yisrael/Israel);

The twelve Shevatim/Tribes recieved their blessing from thgeir father, among them was:

Yosef/Joseph who ruled over Egypt and all the Beney Yisrael/Children of Israel;

1. Moshe/Moses recieved the leadership and the Torah from Ha-Shem/G-od;

2. Yehoshu'ah/Joshua recieved them from Moshe;

3. The Zeqenim/the Elders recieved them from Yehoshu'ah/Joshua;

4. The Neviim/Prophets recieved them from The Zeqenim/The Elders;

5. The Anshey Keneseth Hagedolah / the Great Assembly (the Sanhedrin) recieved them from
the Neviim/Prophets;

Steps 1. trough 5. are summerized in the first Mishnah of Pirkey Avoth / the Maximes of our Fathers as follows

1. Moses received the Torah from Sinai and transmitted it to Joshua; Joshua to the elders; the elders to the prophets; and the prophets handed it down to the men of the Great Assembly.

The faithful transmission of the Torah and the leadership of the People of Israel then continued during the Galuth Edom / Exile of Rome as follows:

The Sanhedrin to
the Tanaim (of the Mishnah) to
the Amoraim (of the Gemarah) to
the Geonim to the Savoraim to
the Rishonim (the First Ones, who summerized the Halakhah/Jewish Law) to
the A'haronim (the Last Ones) to
the contemporary Rabbis: 'Ha'hamim (for the Sefaradim) or Gedolim (for the Lituanians) or Rebbeim (for the 'Hasidim)

Present day Yehudim/Jews all over the world are ruled by these last great Rabbis.

Note: the present day State of Israel has no divine authority over any Yehudi/Jew in the world but it has only a de facto secular/democratic authority over its citizens (where 25% are non Jews): it represents only its own citizens.

Any time in the near future (before 2040), 'Am Yisrael/the People of Israel will be ruled by a new Sanhedrin and by a King who must be a descentdant of David: he will be The Mashia'h / The Anointed, meaning that he will be officially anointed by the Sanhedrin and by divine authority he will represent and have full authority over the whole 'Am Yisrael/People of Israel.
